Arsenal targeting Juventus midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur

Italian outlet la Gazzetta dello Sport is reporting that Arsenal are interested in signing Juventus and Uruguay midfielder, Rodrigo Bentancur.

Despite being just 21 years of age Bentancur is already showcasing what a top midfielder he has the potential to be.

Bentancur began his career in Argentina with Boca Juniors for whom he made a total of 57 appearances, in which time he scored one and assisted one.

Juventus would then snap up the youngster in July of 2017 for a fee in the region of £9.45 million.

Bentancur made 27 appearances for the Italian giants in all competitions last season, including five in the Champions League.

However, Bentancur never really managed to hold down a regular starting place in Turin.

Bentancur is naturally a central midfielder. But he is quite versatile as he is also able to play right midfield, left midfield, centre attacking midfield and centre defensive midfield, which would make him a useful player for any side.

While Bentancur did have a decent 2017/18 season at Juventus, it was his 2018 World Cup displays for Uruguay which have caught the attention of several European clubs, one of which is Arsenal.

Bentancur started all five of Uruguay’s World Cup games in Russia, in which he managed one assist vs Portugal in the round of 16.

The Juventus midfielder played well in all of his World Cup appearances playing at either centre midfield or centre attacking midfield.

Bentancur also linked up well with Lucas Torreira while on international duty.

Torreira has recently signed for Arsenal for a fee in the region of £22 million and given him and Bentancur worked so well in midfield for Uruguay, perhaps Arsenal now wishes to reunite the duo next season.
